Artist’s Profile – Artists Directory

Artist Statement: I make abstract paintings, in oil and cold wax, that are frequently colorful and always layered and textural. Painting is primarily as an act of self care— finding space to allow for quiet and open-ended exploration is good for my brain/mental health. I paint in Oils and Cold Wax using spatulas, trowels. brayers, pallet knives- pretty much anything but a brush. These tools allow me to create texture- imprinting, scratching, and smoothing the surface in large, freeing movements. Creating these vibrant, loose, intuitive, approachable and interesting paintings is a happy result of me working to find my way to a quieter mind and curious heart. This practice has taught me to be brave and generous. Arts Gowanus and Gowanus Open Studios encourage and support artists through creative neighborhood events that connect artists and community. I am proud to be a part of Arts Gowanus and its ongoing advocacy to keep gowanus creative.
