Artist Statement
My work invites curiosity and challenges what we see as unsettling or grotesque. The pieces are made in an intuitive process where the hand is in collaboration with the material. The choices of the visual references incite a duality and tension of affections. If digested from one angle or perspective, a door opens for another. What looks gross or unsightly potentially comes across as inviting and playful with a second impression. What looks natural and enticing, can be disturbing and strange. Casey Lin is a sculptor based in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA from School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016. Her work has been exhibited in shows in Chicago, Indiana, and New York. She currently works out of her studio at Gowanus Creative Studios in Brooklyn.
