Artist Statement
I use landscape to describe our mediated reality. Inspired by history and using AI as collaborator, I examine our understanding of nature. The work approaches abstraction while retaining elements of rocks, plants, wildlife. Recent work lets space itself hold structure; water commands the entire pictorial field. The visual and metaphorical properties are rich: wave, reflection, flood. Water's fluidity calls attention to how paint behaves, creating direct correspondence between material and subject. I pursue fundamental tensions: the veracity of colored marks versus the seduction of illusion, where a brushstroke exists both as itself and as droplets splashing from the ocean's surface.
