- Artist Statement
- My artistic practices explore the topics of self identity, culture, and politics. I often reference Mexican culture and Prehispanic designs. Through my creative process I dissect the challenges of growing up in a mixed status community. My paintings portray members of my community who have been affected by family separation laws, and the trauma that followed as a result. The global pandemic has forced me to reflect on my personal traumas. This has led me to explore the topic of mental illness. Recently, my artwork has documented the emotional process of coping with General Anxiety Disorder and PTSD.
