I have two shows during Gowanus Open Studios. Both center on moments of failure because, well, (waves at world).

Each drawing starts with a simple set of rules that I carry out across the paper or weave with beads. But while a computer runs algorithms with precision and exactness my body introduces friction: a momentary lapse in concentration, a shifted line, or a miscounted cell. Every time I make a mistake, it shifts the entire system, forcing the pattern to mutate in ways I did not plan for. Instead of erasing those missteps or starting over, I forgive myself and let them run, derailing the initial logic. In the end, the drawing becomes a record of that tug-of-war between a perfect plan and what actually happens.

This work centers on the physical anxiety of crossing certain thresholds. You know the feeling: that quiet, permanent shift the moment an impulse takes over and a state of being is irrevocably altered. An apple core is an ancient archetype of temptation; a freshly lit cigarette is a distinctly modern ritual of indulgence; a raw egg yolk marks a point of absolute, fragile irreversibility. These are inherently short-lived, volatile items destined to be consumed, broken, or discarded the second they are used.
