- Artist Statement
- Pop! Whiz! Bam!… my work in collage and assemblage reflects my love of Pop Art, rock n’ roll, graphic design, psychedelia, punk aesthetics, and material culture. I work on various collage series simultaneously to keep things interesting and give each series a title. My “Pasted Pop” collage series is a mash-up of printed paper ephemera spanning different eras. My source materials are culled from whatever speaks to me: old rock magazines, vintage packaging, and other miscellaneous stuff I’ve collected. It’s the colors, the fonts, and the surrealism of placing images out of context that provides pure joy. My “Super Deep” series is the result of experimenting with a stash of kitsch 3D pre-printed lenticular plastic material transformed with collage techniques to create kinetic art, with a touch of eye-dazzling psychedelia. And in my ongoing “Pop Art Assemblage” series, I give collage a sculptural approach, composing found objects onto old 1950s-era candy store lottery boards and other substrates. Visitors to my studio will find themselves immersed in my mini-Museum of Pop Culture while viewing the various series displayed. Also on view are prints of my collage work commissioned by the UK’s Latitude Festival, where I’ve been the festival’s Artist-in-Residence for the past three summers.
