- Artist Statement
- Women have been oppressed and censored for millennia. “More women died in the last 50 years – precisely because they were women – than men did during wars in the 20th century”. This statistic impacted me deeply. Being raised in a matriarcal family I was not aware of the complete opposite situation that females suffer. As a result, in my art I create strong, powerful women to show their resiliency. I paint their bodies volume and shape to highlight their energy and beauty. I reveal their physical and emotional changes to calm and heal. Showing free bodies screaming in color has become my protest against censorship.
