Artist’s Profile – Arts Gowanus

Artist Statement: The decorative arts have greatly influenced my career as both a painter and ceramic artist. My passion and interest in pattern, whether it be in nature, human nature or the man-made world continually provide inspiration for my work. My mixed media works on paper are filled with patterns culled from a lifetime of researching and collecting old wallpapers, historic stencils, textiles, Joss papers and other “flotsam and jetsam”. Decorative motifs referencing historic, mythological, botanic and multi-cultural symbols are layered with personal biographical imagery that form the rich narratives associated with my work.
