Artist’s Profile – Artists Directory

Artist Statement: Tiziana’s work investigates surface as a site of memory, labor, and transformation. Drawing from her background in scenic painting, she uses layered materials—such as concrete, plaster, pigment, and oxidized surfaces—to construct paintings that resemble weathered architecture or eroded walls. These surfaces are not representations of specific places, but accumulations of time, touch, and material processes. Texture functions as both subject and method in her work. Through building, eroding, and reworking surfaces, she explores the tension between construction and decay, permanence and fragility. The materials carry their own histories, allowing chance, gravity, and environmental influence to play an active role in shaping the final image. Drips, cracks, and abrasions remain visible as evidence of process rather than flaws to be concealed. Rooted in observations of urban environments and industrial landscapes, her paintings invite a slow, tactile form of looking. They ask viewers to consider how surfaces record use, weather, and passage—how structures are continuously formed by time rather than fixed within it. By emphasizing material presence and physical depth, her work blurs the boundary between painting and object, encouraging an embodied relationship between viewer and surface.
