- Niagara Falls: From the Sublime to the Ridiculous, a twenty-year project by Woon explores the historical complexities and dualities of Niagara Falls, where five generations of her family lived. This first installation considers themes of desire, power, balance, vision, and survival to relate personal histories to this iconic landscape. Ancestors: Making Something Out of Nothing, uses family textiles to explore the power and limitations of women’s roles. Intertwined are histories of daredevils Annie Taylor and Maria Spelterini, the “Maid of the Mist,” Marilyn Monroe, star of film noir Niagara, and women who "went to the river," a local euphemism of those who returned to the river by choice. Drawings, hangings, and installations are part of this exploration.
