I'm Kate Brennan (she/her), a queer, disabled American artist living and working in Gowanus. My work is rooted in rhizomes: a kind of plant, but more importantly a network of decentralized nodes that help life to survive when no one piece is essential. Rhizomes as an analogy caught my attention over 10 years ago, andI will always consider expansion, interaction, and survival in my work. I enjoy tunneling into process, prioritizing energy and linework. Can I carve softly or take delicate newsprint and make it strong? I see relationships, fluidity, and hardness in most living things, all wonderful ideas to explore in Gowanus.
