Artist Statement
Willow Ruth (Buzzy), b. 1976, is a self-taught artist based in Brooklyn. Family is the heart of her practice. She is known for making Lunch-Notes for her son every morning for four years. Ruth collects scraps from her father’s studio and the streets of NYC to make sculptures and assemblages. Her raw approach is evident through her ugly-cute ceramics and expansive color field paintings. Across her work, color, humor, instinct, and strong aesthetics remain constant. Solo exhibitions include Spring/Break Art Show and Established Gallery, alongside several group shows. Residencies include Chateaux Orquevaux, France and Experimental in Cocoyoc, Mexico.
