Caroline Otis Heffron

Artist Statement: My paintings direct attention to women on the verge of desire, power, and imaginative potential. I am inspired by women in art history, my personal photographs, and urban spaces. My process is sparked by body language and gesture imagery, and then I surround the figures with symbolic ornamentation from decorative arts and nature. These imaginary new worlds highlight archetypal personas that represent women like me: wanderers, collectors, and creators who reflect my dualistic experiences of belonging yet feeling isolated, being vulnerable yet needing to be strong, and remembering to be present but longing for the future.
