Artist Statement
A native New Yorker, I am a self-taught artist focused on locales familiar to me. Based in Brooklyn, I look for subjects in my backyard, often views where the commonplace seems to have a special patina at a particular moment, whether in the industrial zone by the Gowanus Canal, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, or in a historic brownstone residential neighborhood. When I was a child, my mother delighted in pointing out small details and taught me to be attentive to the colors, shapes, and textures nearby. This practice of being fully aware is a critical part of my art-making process.
