Genesis Lu

Artist Statement: Genesis Lu is a Chinese American artist based in Brooklyn. Their work is inspired by the illustrative qualities of Art Nouveau, incorporating abstract line work and textures with organic botanical imagery, ornate framing, figures, animals, and typography. They often blend whimsical, dreamy, and ethereal beauty with unearthly, eerie, and haunting renditions of flesh. This uncanny harmony of opposing imagery alludes to their own expression of queer identity and transness. They communicate these themes primarily through the mediums of linoleum, silkscreen, and risograph.
