Janet Pedersen

Artist Statement: As a plein air and studio painter, I am inspired by patterns of light and shadow in a landscape, architecture and geometry of an urban setting. and also certain gestures in a figurative subject. I work to capture the ever-changing light and how this can alter a scene in moments, opening up new visual possibilities. Sometimes I can capture a painting in a few hours. Other times I rework my painting back in my studio, where I have an opportunity to take my painting into a new or different realm, if that is what it takes to find a better sense of balance or wholeness. I want the viewer to feel as if I have just captured what ultimately drew me to my subject in the first place.
