Arrows Toward the Sun, Installation Views, 2025 Plywood, acrylic, magnet, flathead nail for mounting, edition of 10 (7.25” x 5”) Arrows installed pointing eastward inside various homes, studios, classrooms, and campgrounds. Before the attempted cultural domination of Northern Europe via colonization and imperialism, most maps had east at the top. The word orientation contains orient, referring to the east, but really comes from the Latin word for rising. The sun rises in the east. Well, really, the sun doesn’t rise, we turn. The Earth rotates eastward, on an invisible axis, toward the sun. We are always spinning, which is good to remember. These are just a tool for knowing your place.
