- My drawings are a documentation of control and surrender, of disequilibrium. They are filled with tension and anticipation. I have developed my visual language through a process of internal questioning and deep concentration—a meditation on what is inside of me and an exploration of where the limit of my imagination exists. This process develops the space to dream. Scheckman is currently developing a children's book with the collaborative partnership, Slotted Spoon Stories. The illustrations for their first children’s book, The Great Pumpkin Rescue will be on display and for sale, along with the presale of the book, prints, stickers and there will be a sneak peak with story times throughout the weekend. Come by to support their self publishing endeavor. Slotted Spoon Stories is the creative partnership of illustrator Rebecca Scheckman and writer Robert Ross Parker. Scheckman, a Media Specialist and fine artist, brings a documentary-maker’s eye for meaningful storytelling and a whimsical, playful and textured aesthetic rooted in a life long drawing practice. Parker, co-founder of the OBIE-winning Vampire Cowboys Theatre, contributes a playful humour, strong sense of story, and love of whimsical words. Both parents (but not together!) they are passionate about creating narrative treasures for young readers. Their work celebrates the messy, the brave, and the wonderfully weird.
