Artist Statement: My mixed media paintings, multimedia installations and public projects reactivate forgotten history with a focus on the lives of women whose voices have been erased. Objects and artifacts evoking disappearance, loss and change interact with collaged surfaces of paint and vintage fabric. Images of my creative tools - pencils, scissors, and glasses – challenge, disrupt and redirect the flow of these images in a groundless space. The ecosystem and history of the Gowanus Canal neighborhood where I have had a studio since 1992 has been an endless source of imagery and subject matter for my work.
