Artist Statement: I was an only child and, like many extremely near-sighted kids, I spent a lot of time engaged with my immediate surroundings. My world was small and intimate. I read a lot and spent hours looking at patterns in the couch fabric, fibers in the rug, and the folded hills of my blanket. As a teenager I became obsessed with photography, working my way through BA and MFA photography degrees. I left the camera but still find my subject matter and materials close at hand - the newspaper, the daily mail, household textiles - silences, boundaries, and communication at a distance.
