Artist Statement: The Ritual Division is an artist-run space for fabrication as a way of life. On the ground floor, our carpentry-focused fabrication shop produces a wide variety of artworks, plinths and art infrastructure, furniture, cabinetry, and specialty commissions, made by the team of artists and craftspeople who also occupy our shared artists' studios. Our skills include large-scale art-making, design, prop construction, art handling, creative production, and fabrication projects across a wide variety of mediums. On the second floor, our gallery doubles as art exhibition and community space. Our exhibition program focuses on newly-commissioned work, installation art, and experimental practices, and we regularly work with emerging artists to offer fabrication resources from our shop and studios. Artist-focused programming serves the material and technical interests of our community, and in all that we do, we create intentional opportunities for makers to learn from one another and explore the many “rituals” of art-making together.
