Artist Statement: I’d like to bring the ideas of abstract painting into a common realm where no one thinks they need a magical key to understand it. Composition like the idea of abstraction is both a kind of science and a form of poetry for the painter. These modes work towards a common end just as improvisation works with Jazz. One facilitates the expression of the other and both are revealed. My work has over many years consistently explored architecture and the textures that surround me for example the palimpsest of writing and marks left on structures. Abstraction is a tool to express what we see every day.
