Artist Statement: Currently showing “Unstill Point”, a solo exhibition by Douglas Ross, through October 31st. Ross’s projected photographic slides visit and revisit Fritz Koenig’s WTC sculpture “The Sphere”, the centerpiece of market neoliberalism abruptly rendered a detail of 9/11 aftermath and moved to Battery Park between the U.S. invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, remaining there for fifteen years. Ross’s photographs are rejoined by several of his colored pencil drawings and selected objects commissioned by the artist. The works give body to a space between the biography of this city, propositional fantasies before and beyond irrevocable history, and exegetic and abstract picture making.
