Artist Statement
David Briggs is an architect, artist, and community activist in Brooklyn and has resided in Carroll Gardens since 1989. “I started drawing, painting, and photographing in the 1980s and 90s, until I put away the pencils, brushes, and camera to focus on my architectural practice and family. When I started painting again over ten years ago, I completed several still lifes before moving into a series of "scrapes" that explore color, architectural space, and hard geometry. I am now working on figurative paintings as I learn about the human form. I paint for the desire to understand process and create something new.”
