Ellen Chuse

Artist Statement: Ellen Chuse has been part of the Gowanus Arts Community for over 20 years. She is now best known for her vibrant, color saturated paintings on paper. Pairing archetypal forms with intense color, her paintings contain inherent mysteries and ambiguity of both scale and context. Chuse says, “ The beauty of abstract, symbolic form is that meaning will vary from one person to another, one culture to another. This is a theme that has been a thread through my work over many years. Ideally, these ambiguities challenge the viewer to bring personal associations and experiences to each piece.”
