My current paintings are created with acrylic gouache on gessoed bookbinder’s board. The paintings begin with a simple pencil-drawn grid. The grid serves as an underlying substructure where I explore the basic visual elements of color, quantity and placement. It is within my self-imposed restrictions that a world opens up for a seemingly endless exploration of the relationships of color and shapes. In this series, I explore symmetry and asymmetry, flatness and the illusion of space, shape interconnection and isolation, and stillness and motion. The goals are to engage the viewer’s eye travel in and around the paintings and for me to find my own inner-peace and joy in creating these painted puzzles.
